Summer Vacation

Whew! We have started off summer with a bang. Actually in late May, we started off summer with a freak 105 degree fever for the little man - right before we were supposed to head to the beach - ack! The weird thing was that other than this very high fever, he had absolutely no symptoms and tested clear for strep, ear infection, UTI, etc. Very, very odd!

Being the terrible parents we are, we still went to Destin, fever and all, to enjoy the pristine beaches before all that nasty oil started to wash up on shore. We had a lovely time at the beach. On our first day there, Wednesday, M refused to get in the ocean and then finally agreed to go in, but only with B holding him and M doing his best koala impression (arms and legs wrapped allllll the way around dad). Thursday, he relented and agreed to go in with Uncle John's cool boogie boards. The water was extremely calm - really almost no waves at all. He enjoyed this and so by Friday, he was just picking up the boogie board and heading into the ocean all by himself. "Mom, do NOT touch this boogie board. I can do it MYSELF!" I wish I could bottle that bravery up so next year when we go to the beach we don't have to start all over from square one.

June has flown past with a combination of vacation bible schools, tennis camp and next week zoo camp. We also had a lot of excitement around here this month when the "tree fort of dreams" was constructed for M by our neighbor up the street. Honestly this was the best money we ever spent on a toy - ever. M has played out there every day since it was finished. He eats out there and would sleep out there too, if we'd let him!
