Yesterday morning, M and I made our weekly outing to the farmer's market to get our eggs, vegetables and coffee for the week. He wanted to go out to breakfast and after some negotiating, we agreed to go to the Arcade for some delicious sweet potato pancakes (note: if you have not yet enjoyed the sweet potato pancakes at the Arcade, you are missing out! note 2: don't even TRY to go to the Arcade on a Saturday after 9:30 or 10, the wait is long!)
So we drove around the corner to go to the Arcade (I know, height of laziness, right? But, if you had seen what those clouds looked like, you would have driven too). On the way, M said, "Mom what if we have McDonalds breakfast at our house?" Having just watched Food Inc., I'm trying to cut way back on the already small amount of fast food we eat. I started to say no. Apparently M knows just what it sounds like when I'm about to say no because he hastened to add, "Not from McDonalds, but you know, the kind we make and then you can put it in a bag with a toy, like a Happy Meal."
What a great idea he had! So, we came home and made biscuits with eggs and bacon from the farmer's market. His had cheddar, mine had farmer's market goat cheese rolled in italian herbs - YUM! I then decorated a bag for him, found a forgotten toy from his toy room, wrapped his sandwich in wax paper and placed some sliced up kiwi in a container and put it all together. When he opened the bag he said, "Hey they don't have kiwi at McDonalds!" but happily sat down to devour the entire kiwi and 2 breakfast sandwiches, along with a glass of organic milk. He was happy about his "happy meal", I was happy about the food he was eating.
Next, I'm going to try this with lunch...
